Flu Prevention Study – Higher-Risk Individuals

Researchers are evaluating an investigational medication that may help prevent the flu in people who are at higher risk of developing flu-related complications.

Age Range: 12 to 100
Gender: Male and Female
Location: West Chester, Pennsylvania

About the Study

For some people, getting the flu can lead to more serious health complications. This may include older adults, people living with certain chronic health conditions, and people whose immune systems are weakened by a medical condition or treatment.

If you qualify and choose to participate, you will receive one injection of either the investigational medication or a placebo. The study is double-blind, meaning neither you nor the study team will know which one you receive during the study.

Participation lasts approximately 29 weeks, not including the screening period. During the study, participants will be asked to complete regular check-ins about possible flu-like symptoms and attend study visits as required.

Qualifications

You may qualify if you:

  • Are 65 years of age or older, even if you are otherwise healthy; OR
  • Are 12 years of age or older and have certain health conditions that may put you at greater risk for flu complications, such as certain lung conditions, moderate-to-severe asthma, heart disease, insulin-dependent diabetes, or moderate kidney disease; OR
  • Are 12 years of age or older and have a weakened immune system due to certain medical conditions, cancer treatment, an organ or stem cell transplant, or certain medications that suppress the immune system.
  • Are currently in stable health and have not been hospitalized for a worsening medical condition or other significant medical event within the past 2 months.
